Dubai Delay

Even if our plane was on time we were going to be pushed to make our connecting flight to Dublin. An unusual weather event, also known as precipitation, over the UAE meant that our plane had to do loops off the coast of Dubai for about 45 before we could land. Running off the plane and coming to a stand still at security with another 300 passengers was not boding well for that connecting flight. Unsurprising given the title of this blog post, we didn't make it. Although our plane was still at the gate and had not left yet the gates had closed and along with 26 other passengers we missed our flight.
It rained and rained...then rained some more. The planes on the runway were creating waves of water as they taxied and Dubai's beautiful airport was leaking in many spots. We found a place to rest and put our feet up and waited for the next flight 8 hours later.

Eventually we boarded our next flight, seeing many familiar faces amongst our fellow passengers. Although the steady rain had eased there was still delays and we sat on the tarmac for another 90 minutes before take-off. Yet we were still in good spirits.
The flight was blessedly uneventful and we arrived in Dublin to a beautiful welcome party, Craimy, and Amy's parents, Gemma and Peter. A bottle of Cava later (sparkling wine - not the Fiji Kava! its good to clarify these things), we closed our eyes for the night and were happy that the journey was finally over.
