The Hens

Friday night mum and I were picked up by the lovely Ciara and Amy and were whisked away to an unknown location to enjoy Amy's third hens event. A coordinated affair from the bridesmaid the mysterious location was Avon Ri Lakeshore Resort just out of township of Blessington.

A dinner of chilli and slaw was enjoyed with ample celebratory bubbles followed by a few games including toilet paper gown designing.

The following morning we were to report for breakfast at 9 in the Library Bar, dressed as famous sporting heroes. Mum and I had raided Craig's wardrobe for our costumes having had limited space in the suitcases. Everyone got into the spirit of the event and we drew quite a few gazes as the 12 of us meandered towards the main reception centre ready for the events of the day ahead.

Our activities coordinator took us through a series of "team building" games and some how all the Anslow girls were on the same team. It turns out they are very very competitive! But it a billion laughs. There was the plank walking game followed by the ball drain game.

The magic stick game - which proved to be too hard for some - just put the stick on the ground - seems like a reasonably straight forward instruction!!

The horse shoe toss and wheelbarrow race face off proved to be an equal competition with both teams winning one round each.

The tie-breaker game in the form of the Welly-toss - here I found a previously undiscovered talent and after a few errant tosses which had some of the spectators ducking for cover I threw the winning toss.

Next there was archery which proved to reignite the Anslow girls competition.

To finish off the activities we went zip lining - Eddie the Eagle flew through the air on his skis and all was carefully supervised by this strange character.

After lunch we went back to the bar to watch the Ireland v Italy rugby match and after witnessing a strong Irish team wallop Italy in the first half other than the die-hard supporters most of the group went in different directions to nap, go for a swim or enjoy the spectacular scenery.
