The Book of Kells

After the walking tour I left the parents to go shopping on Henry Street and made my way back to Trinity to see the Book of Kells. Having previously thought that the Book of Kells was a book of famous Kels I soon discovered it was not.

Some Famous Kels

Kel Knight (from Kath and Kim)

Kel Richards (author of The Aussie Bible)

Kel Mitchell (Comedian, Actor, I googled him)

The Actual Book of Kells

The Book of Kells dates back to the 9th Century and is known as an illuminated manuscript. It is an illustrated copy of the four gospels written in latin. Its written on vellum, calf skin and was buried for years to avoid Viking Raiders. No photos can be taken of the manuscript so I've downloaded some from the internet.

The Long Room

After being wowed by the Book of Kells you walk up a flight of stairs and into the Long Room. As its name suggests its rather long. Its awesomely full of first edition books and a library that I would love to replicate in a small room in Kerang.
